Pro Bono Policy
by Bruce M. Small, M.Ed., Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying)
Bruce Small's pro bono policy is guided by the following features:
1. Time Limited. Typically Bruce will take on a pro bono (non-paying) client for six months at a time, with re-evaluation at the end of each six month period. In most cases, the pro bono period will end by the one-year mark.
2. Targeted. Currently Bruce is seeking to use his pro bono time to support clients who are members of socially disadvantaged groups and/or subject to multiple oppressions.
3. Equal Care. Pro bono status does not in any way diminish the quality of care and attention that Bruce puts into his work with a client.
4. Transition to Peer Counselling. When possible Bruce will train pro bono clients in advanced peer counselling skills. These enable them to seek ongoing support over the long haul from similarly trained non-professionals within a peer counselling network. This support is achieved through an equal exchange of aware attention, without expending money.
