DIVERSITY: An evening event for people with peer counselling experience
Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010, 7:30-9:30pm, downtown Toronto
A peer counselling workshop led by Bruce M. Small and Paula Blaser
as part of a series called Helping Each Other Change
The world has always been confounded by simple differences among human beings, despite our basic similarities as members of the same species. Many of our social concepts are steeped in this confusion, including patriotism ('hooray for people who live in the same country') and militarism ('boo to all our enemies').
We are also familiar with a host of other "isms", such as looking down on people with different body characteristics, physical disabilities, gender, age, sexual orientation, height, weight, income, religion, country of origin and many other factors.
| |
Yet it is absolutely fundamental to our basic biology that we are all identifiably different from each other. And with recent advances in neuroscience, we are also learning that each of us builds our brain, our nervous system, and our physical capabilities differently, given our own unique experiences in life.
Because of the incredible complexity of our minds, we also have the potential to think and feel differently from others. And because the human imagination is virtually limitless, we are all capable of having widely different ideas, goals, fantasies and dreams.

The event is a one-evening, mixed gender, queer positive workshop:
21 Carlton St., Toronto (near College Subway)

Wed., June 23, 2010, 7:30-9:30pm (workshop fee $40 cash or cheque)

The course organizer and instructor is Bruce M. Small - an engineer, author, speaker and life script coach. Bruce's co-instructor and support person is Paula Blaser - artist, linguist, homemaker and a pioneer in reforming male-female relationships. The strength of their leadership teamwork is based on having known each other for more than half a century.
To register, contact Bruce at bruce@envirodesic.com or by phone or text at (416)-274-1628. The workshop will be held at a convenient downtown Toronto location just steps away from the College Subway Station on theYonge line.
The primary purpose of the workshop is to introduce people in the GTA who have peer counselling experience from various backgrounds to each other, so that they may develop more counselling relationships and exchange aware attention with each other to help their lives go well. There is a considerable network of people in the area who are trained in these and similar methods.

During the workshop, participants will revisit and sharpen their basic peer counselling skills through sharing, discussion and demonstrations. The topic of 'diversity' will also be used to pull each other forward with the help of new ideas and perspectives. After the event, participants will be free to make appointments with each other to exchange counselling attention.

This form of counselling is designed for non-professional mutual support and is extremely helpful in maintaining good relationships, reducing daily stress, and improving your overall physical and emotional health. The event is designed for individuals who already have been instructed in basic peer counselling skills, however they happen to apply them in their lives or in their professions.
